Ibrahimovic Wins Court Case Over Doping Allegations

Soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has secured victory in a libel case on over accusations he had used performance-enhancing substances. These stemmed from his time at Serie A side Juventus.

Ibrahimovic sued the former coach of Sweden's athletics team, Ulf Karlsson, over remarks made during a panel discussion in April. Karlsson said he believed Ibrahimovic could have used performance-enhancing drugs when he gained 10 kilograms (22 pounts) of muscle mass in a six-month period during his time at Italian side Juventus (2004-2006).

A Swedish court ruled that Ibrahimovic, now at Manchester United, had been subjected to slander and fined Karlsson 24,000 kronor ($2,640, 2,500 euros).

"Even if his remarks do not contain a direct accusation that Zlatan Ibrahimovic had taken steroids, the court finds that these remarks, given the context in which they were made, cannot be taken any other way than to give the impression that Zlatan Ibrahimovic would have taken steroids during his time at Juventus," the court wrote in its verdict.

Karlsson was, however, not convicted for a quote he gave to a local reporter after the debate and was not ordered to pay the footballer's court costs.

Ibrahimovic, who did not appear at the hearing, has never tested positive for doping in a career that has also seen him turn out for Ajax, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.

Patrice Evra's Agent Open Up Over His Return To Manchester United

Juventus defender Patrice Evra is ‘certain’ to remain in Italy until the end of the season, his agent revealed.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a return to the Old Trafford where he spent eight successful years. There are reports that Jose Mourinho wants to add the 35-year-old to his backroom staff at the Old Trafford and United legend, Rio Ferdinand also hinted Evra could stage a comeback with a social media post suggesting the move could be on.

However, his agent Federico Pastorello has now opened up on the rumours, saying: ‘It’s not certain he will leave Juventus,’

‘We’ll see what happens over the next few days.’

Evra will be out of contract at the end of the season and could like the fact of returning to the Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho has also set his sights on bolstering his squad with defensive reinforcements but claimed he will not be pushing for a move for Victor Lindelof.

Chelsea will appeal Terry's red card-Says conte

Antonio Conte wants to appeal against John Terry's red card in Chelsea's 4-1 FA Cup win over Peterborough, believing it was 'very clear' his captain should not have been dismissed.

Terry, making his first start since the League Cup defeat by West Ham in October, clumsily fouled Lee Angol as the striker raced towards goal and was shown a straight red by referee Kevin Friend.

Conte claimed Terry was not the last man because Branislav Ivanovic would have provided cover.

Terry posted on Instagram: 'What a great feeling being back on the pitch today, albeit only for 67 mins after my red card which I will be appealing.

'I hope the FA and the ref will look at it and realise I didn't touch @leeangol. Great win for the boys and into the next round of the FA Cup.'

Terry's manager defended his man, as Conte said: 'I think it wasn't the right decision by the referee. He did not take the opponent and also - the second reason - behind John was Ivanovic to cover John.

Rashford Could break Rooney's record-says Mourinho

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has said Marcus Rashford could go on to surpass the scoring feats of Sir Bobby Charlton and Wayne Rooney at the club.

Rooney netted his 249th goal for United in their 4-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday, equalling the record set by Charlton who was watching from the main stand.

Rashford also scored a brace in the match.

“I don’t know the distances, really, but I think the ones that are close are players that left United already,” Mourinho said.

“So, especially in modern football I see it is really difficult. I don’t know, who knows?

“Marcus, he is 19. If he plays Man United until the end of his career, maybe Marcus can do it but Rooney scored a lot of goals”, he added.

Rashford only made his debut last February but has netted 14 times for United.

Liverpool star Robbed by hooded gang who stole £70,000 worth of belongings'

Roberto Firmino reportedly had to be moved to a hotel safehouse after a hooded gang broke in and stole £70k in jewellery and clothes.

According to The Sun, the Brazilian international is the latest player to fall victim to a targeted attack after having his house watched for several days.

Burglars are said to have initially failed with their first attempt to break-in, but waited until 25- year-old and the rest of his family left the property before launching their planned operation.

Anfield officials ordered Firmino to not return home amid safety concerns and were moved to a hotel over Christmas whilst upgrades were made to his security system at the family home.

A Sun source said: “These guys had been waiting for some time before making their move.

“They’d obviously been watching Roberto come and go, then swooped in.

“It’s thought they are the same guys who were disturbed mid-burglary on a previous occasion.”

FIFA set to approve expansion of World Cup to 48 countries

FIFA president, Gianni Infantino is optimistic that his ruling council will on Tuesday, agree to expand the 2026 World Cup to 48 nations, playing in 16 groups of three teams.

A decision could be delayed if some council members have reservations about how many qualifying places each continent will have.

The current 32-team format has been used since 1998 and will be used for the next two World Cups in Russia and Qatar.

Infantino claims the prize of 16 extra places, with the biggest increases to Africa and Asia, has “overwhelming” support from FIFA’s 211 member federations.

“Financially, the 48-team format is the most appealing or successful simply because the sporting element is prevailing and every match is important,” he said two weeks ago.

“The decision should not be financially driven, neither in terms of revenue or costs … but the driver should really be the development of football and boosting football all over the world”, he added.

I won't sign new Arsenal deal if wenger leaves-ozil

Arsenal playmaker, Mesut Ozil, has revealed he would not sign a new contract with the club, if he is not assured of manager Arsene Wenger’s future at the club beyond 2018.

Ozil has 18 months left on his current deal and has been locked in negotiations with the club’s heirachy for a while now.

In an interview with German football magazine, Kicker, he said: “I am very, very happy at Arsenal and have let the club know that I would be ready to sign a new contract. The fans want that I stay and now it is just down to the club.”

The former Real Madrid player who arrived in 2013, also denied his decision to sign a new contract, was not down to money.

“The club knows that I am here most of all because of Arsène Wenger. He is the one who signed me and he is the one whose trust I have. The club also knows that I want to be clear what the manager is going to [in the future],” he added.

Wenger’s contract runs out in 2017.

I Am To Be blame For City's Failings,Not The Players-says Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola blames himself for Manchester City's poor show so far
Pep Guardiola publicly claims that Manchester City's mixed performance in the first half of the season was due to his mistakeManchester City manager Pep Guardiola has taken full responsibility for the club's topsy-turvy start to the season under his tutelage.
After winning the first 6 matches in the league, Pep's City have lost and drew several matches and after 19 matches, that is half way through, they are placed in 4th position in the league table with 42 points, 7 less than toppers Chelsea.

Explaining City's poor show in the first half of the season, the Spanish manager said that he is the only one to be blamed for this below par performance.
He further claimed that he tried and tested several tactics with the team which made it difficult for the players to adjust.
Pep was quoted by DailyMail: In the first part of the season some really good games and good performances.
"But the moment we felt mistakes, especially in defence - at White Hart Lane, at Celtic - we lost our confidence to play a little bit.
"And of course at times my ideas were not good because I'm still in the process to know the players; what is the best position, the best way to play, to adapt to them.
"Sometimes I have an idea; three at the back or play a player like this. And sometimes it didn't work and when that happens it is always the manager.
"I never complain to the players because, when I see them training, how they suffer and what they did in the last game against Burnley, after 65, 70 minutes with 10 against 11, two days after the game at Anfield, they want to do it.
"You have to look at yourself and see what you have to do to help them find each other and play to each other more fluently, not all the time with aggression.
"And that's my job. I have to help them. And I tell them. And most of the times we were not good, it was my responsibility."
It is a great gesture by the City manager who publicly acknowledged his mistake and vows to stir up his team for a better show in the second half.

FA Cup:FA chief Says It Plan To Increase Price Fund(See why)

The Football Association plans to increase FA Cup prize money with the aim of helping lower league clubs, says chief executive Martin Glenn.

In October, the FA signed a six-season overseas broadcast rights deal for the FA Cup – reportedly worth £820m.

Glenn said the FA could raise the current £25m fund because of the deal, which starts from the 2018-19 season.

“The FA Cup is a great way of redistributing money to the lower leagues,” Glenn told BBC Radio 5 live.

“The prize fund is £25m,” Glenn told Sportsweek. “We’re looking to increase that over the coming years and hopefully benefit the smaller clubs.”

Glenn also said the FA may look at introducing a “unity” payment which would help split money more equally. Under the current system, clubs receive a larger amount of money if their game is televised.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Gives His wife An Hilarious Christmas Gift

It probably won’t be much of a surprise to many of his fans, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave his wife, Helena Seger, the most typical Ibrahimovic present ever for Christmas.

Over the festive period, most ladies would of quite liked some jewellery, a fragrance perhaps or something more special from their significant other.

Not Ibrahimovic though, as The Sun report that the 35-year-old gave his missus a framed picture of himself celebrating scoring a goal for Manchester United, the infamous celebration of him jumping up and scaring the life out of Jesse Lingard.

Having received the image from a member of staff at the club just before Christmas, the former Swedish international evidently had a lightbulb moment as he thought what better present for poor old Helena.

As noted in the report, Ibrahimovic once famously responded to a question about what he would be getting his wife for Christmas with: “Nothing, she already has Zlatan.”

The former AC Milan and Barcelona star can’t lose in our eyes as it just gets better and better as this is a story that can be added to the countless memorable quotes that he’s provided us with over the years.

While we’re sure Helena appreciated the present, and in all probability got some more serious ones to go along with it, we just hope that Zlatan continues to fire in the goals and enjoys his football for as long as possible while providing us with these off-the-pitch dimes too.

FIFA Ceases Annual Grant To NFF Due To Traces Of Corruption

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have been dealt a huge financial blow as FIFA announced it would be stopping its annual development grant to the federation after their investigation found traces of corruption in how previous grants were being spent.

The NFF received a stern letter from the governing body asking the federation to straighten their financial records.

According to africanfootball.com, the ceased grant is being estimated to be around $1.5 million.

Previously, the NFF received around $250,000 in grants per annum but the new increase came about when Gianni Infantino became president of FIFA.

The NFF had already come under immense scrutiny after Solomon Dalung expressed serious concerns on the handling of the grants after FIFA initially issued a query on how the grants given to them were spent.

Already the Glass House are under investigation by anti-corruption agency EFCC after a petition was filed against the football authority. It would be recalled that recently auditors had questioned the handling of the federation's finances for the past fiscal year.

Jose Mourinho eyes £45m splurge in January to fix Manchester United problem area

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly considering splashing out £45m on signing defensive pair Jose Fonte and Victor Lindelof.

It’s claimed by The Express, that the Portuguese tactician is ready to sign off on a £38m deal to bring Lindelof to Old Trafford, with an issue between Benfica and his former club Vasteras over a sell-on fee now resolved.

However, that isn’t where the spending will end on his defence as it’s added that Fonte will also be targeted, and United will battle Everton for the experienced defender’s signature in the January transfer window in a deal worth around £7m.

This latest report comes as part of a conflicting series of updates on the matter, with some suggestions that Mourinho remains keen to bolster his defensive line, while others have reported that perhaps he’s happy with his current options.

It’s worth noting that Marcos Rojo’s injury could now complicate matters and force Mourinho to act in the market, with the Argentine defender hobbling off during the FA Cup win over Reading on Saturday.

Prior to that, his partnership with Phil Jones had been really impressive, and it looked as though with Chris Smalling also an option that Mourinho had plenty of cover in the absence of Eric Bailly who is away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations until next month.

The Express believe that United could now spend big on two defenders to shore things up once and for all, and they would undoubtedly be bringing in a pair of real quality players.

Fonte’s experience will be a welcome addition as the Euro 2016 winner has been a focal point of Southampton’s success for years, while Lindelof, at 22 years of age, has been tipped to have a bright future.

It remains to be seen whether or not these moves go through this month, but the Express seem convinced that Mourinho is preparing to swoop as he targets a return to the Champions League for the club.

Tottenham on red alert as Barcelona look to snatch most important figure in club’s success

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to be given a real scare as it’s claimed that Barcelona wish to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their next coach.

Speculation has been rife this week that the Catalan giants have put together a shortlist of possible candidates to become Luis Enrique’s successor at the end of the season.

According to The Daily Star, Pochettino is on that list, and given the impressive nature of his work as a manager over the last few years, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all were he to be near the top of the list of targets.

Having got the ball rolling with excellent spells at Espanyol and Southampton, the Argentine tactician has taken himself and Spurs to the next level since arriving at White Hart Lane as the club are in the midst of a Premier League title race for the second consecutive season.

Pochettino can be credited for a lot of the positive work done at Spurs since 2014, and it’s no surprise that Barca are considering the 44-year-old as a possible future coach.

It comes at a time when it’s claimed that Enrique and the La Liga outfit are planning a parting of ways at the end of the season, as per the Star, despite the level of success that he has enjoyed since taking up the post.

Barca currently trail rivals Real Madrid by six points in the title race, albeit they have a game in hand, but they have failed to deliver consistently this season which has also led to question marks over Enrique’s future.

While it’s only to be expected that a club of their stature is linked with all the top managers across Europe, it’s likely going to be incredibly difficult to prise Pochettino away from Tottenham.

Not only are the club in a strong position given he signed a new contract last summer, but there is a solid project being built at White Hart Lane with plenty of room for growth moving forward and so it has to be asked whether Pochettino would really be ready to walk away from that in favour of Barca.
